Change is all around us. Many things are changing. It’s normal to feel overwhelmed or even scared, so it is important to know how what we can do to feel more at ease in periods of uncertainty.
So many things NEEDED to change. We had got to a point of pollution, unhealthy lifestyle, disconnection from ourselves, from our emotions, from nature… that something definitely needs to change.
But before things can improve or transform, we have to go through a period of uncertainty, and that’s when things can get uncomfortable.
Sometimes we need to hit bottom to realise that something needs to change and we need to do something about it.
The transition might feel uncomfortable or painful, but it is a necessary part of the process.
Knowing how to deal with this period of uncertainty and being comfortable with the not knowing is key to our mental and physical well-being . Otherwise we might lose perspective of the bigger picture.
I know many people are also feeling this process of change internally, not knowing what’s exactly going on but definitely feeling like there’s something happening inside.
Like something wasn’t working, like something needed to change inside.
Like an old part of ourselves is dying somehow.
This process is not to be scared of, but to embrace it! It means we are growing, evolving, improving.
Like when snakes shed their skin. Shedding the old parts of ourselves can be uncomfortable or even painful, but we need to go through this process so we can grow our ‘new skin’ – new habits, new behaviours, new beliefs, new decisions.
SURFING THE WAVE
I see this period of time like a huge wave we have to surf. When you surf, you can’t control the wave. You can’t tell the wave to take you to the right or to the left. You can control how YOU surf it, BUT not the wave.
It’s not about relaxing and stop surfing, because you would be at the mercy of the wave. It would be like doing nothing and just ‘suffer’ whatever life throws at us.
What we can do is surf the wave the best way we can. Being aware of how we feel, how we think, what we do, where we put our energy. Making conscious decisions. Trusting our inner guidance.
It’s not about controlling the outcome, it is about knowing that we have the power to stand up on the surfboard and do the best we can.
I don’t know what the world or my life will look like in 5 years, not even next year! I don’t know where this wave will take me. I know I have all the tools to surf it and flow with it.
TIPS TO DEAL WITH UNCERTAIN TIMES
1.Spend Time on your own.
Pay attention to what’s going on inside yourself. Sit still and quiet the mind. Remove the layers. Deep within your heart, what do you need to let go of? What needs to change for you? What wasn’t working?
2.Pay attention to your emotions and please don’t repress them or ignore them!
Repressing emotions will make you feel stressed and can even appear as physical symptoms if we systematically block them. This is an article with techniques to identify and express your emotions in a healthy way.
3.Start journaling.
One of my favourite tools for well-being. Get a notebook and write for 10 minutes when you get up and/or before going to bed. How do you feel today? What are you grateful for? What is a priority?
Journaling will not only help you release stress but get clarity about your needs.
4.Get a confidence boost with this exercise:
Think of all the difficult situations you’ve overcome in the past. What did you learn? If you are worried about a particular possible scenario, what internal and external resources do you have to deal with it? Make a list of all your strengths, knowledge, experience and positive traits.
We tend to forget we have so much power within ourselves, it is always there waiting for us to connect with it. This guided visualisation will help connect with your inner wisdom.
5.Pay attention to your cycle.
As women, we have a cyclical nature, and very likely you will see your energy, your mood and your body changing throughout your cycle. But also very likely these changes will follow a similar pattern.
Once you know how to flow with these inner changes, you can optimise your well-being, happiness and fulfilment. Check out his article for more information on women’s cycle.
So my message with this article is: Don’t be scared of change, embrace it.
When we are forced to stop or do things differently, many things inside ourselves can come up to the surface unexpectedly.
Use this time to remove the layers, to find your truth.
If you can push through that moment of uncertainty and maybe even discomfort or pain, you will see this is a great opportunity to discover and start honouring your true self. And that is definitely something to embrace.
